Always Another Door Opens by: MiKayla Pineda

In the short story “Federigo's Falcon” there are several life lessons; however there is one theme that stands out above the rest. This theme is simply put that from each life that ends and a door that closes another door opens and a new life begins. This is seen in the story when the mother’s son falls tragically ill, the mother of the child knows that he is on the brink of death, however she is willing to do anything within her power to make him as comfortable as possible in his last few moments of life. Though the falcon is killed and her son dies another door is opened when she finds that Fedrigo is an option for her to be married to, he loves her and she knows that he will respect her and treat her well so they begin a new life together. In this action another door is opened for a new life together as a newlywed couple. The painting that has been selected is Madonna Adoring the Child the oil painting has many aspects that remind me of the short story Federigo's Falcon. These include the baby who is laying on what appears to be a table and looks ill. The child appears as though he may die if at this time he has not already. You see the mother figure in the painting given the illusion that she cares deeply for the child and is saint-like. The figure referred to as Madonna would do anything to save or in the very least appease that child in its last moments. The woman figure in the painting is also depicted as a beautiful woman which the story states that she was beautiful. Though in the painting it seems as though she has lost a son she is still smiling and appears hopeful as though she knows that a new door will open and she will begin a new life, or in the very least a new chapter.

  1. This is a very nice piece that you put together. The theme of not giving up and knowing another door opens was inspiring. For example, when you said she lost her son but then she found love. I think the painting goes great with the story. You can see in the woman's face that she would do anything to help her poor child. The sacrifices that they gave to each other was so sweet. She knew comforting her son was the biggest thing she needed to do in his last moments. You did a great job pointing out how when something bad happens, a new door will open and there will be happiness. The title fits it all and its well put together. Great job!
